Since 2010, Laughing Pony Rescue (LPR) has saved over 1,400 horses, donkeys and farm animals from abuse, neglect and slaughter. Rescued horses in our therapy program have helped numerous individuals struggling from a variety of illnesses. Our educational programs continue to bring awareness of animal abuse and protective programs to communities throughout San Diego County, California.
Each week, more than 6000 equines are rounded up throughout the United States, crammed into hot trucks without food or water and sent to slaughter facilities.
Throughout the process, these animals are neglected and abused. Many of them already suffering from broken bones and malnourishment. Worse yet, in addition to stallions and mares, often young equine foals are found among the group heading to the slaughterhouses.
Founder
Celia Sciacca
Celia Sciacca is the president of Laughing Pony Rescue, which was founded as a non-profit 501(c)3 in 2010. Each day, she and her team of volunteers take care of up to 20 horses at the LPR ranch. Additionally, we coordinate rescue activities throughout the Western United States with the help of local volunteers. Volunteers monitor feedlots, auction houses and private entities looking for animals that we can rescue and find them a new and caring home.
